All hemp products should be analyzed to determine the amount of water activity present. The higher the measured water activity is in a hemp sample, the more freely water can be used by microbes as a food source or to support chemical and enzymatic reactions.
Why it matters
While cannabis is routinely dried and cured, making it difficult for most microbes to survive, Salmonella, Aspergillus, and Clostridium Botulium are all capable of successfully reproducing on hemp flowers. The less active water in the product, the longer the shelf life.
